This was an absolutely incredible birthing mama! She was the most in control of her birth experience that I've seen yet. Her story starts when she texts me at 12:21 PM, "My contractions are 6 minutes apart. Just heading up to maternity now." Then she follows that with a text at 2:11 PM, "I think we are about to go grab some sushi at Little Japan. The contractions are still fairly far apart." I texted back, "You should eat extra wasabi and hope it gets things moving;)"
She signed herself out of maternity to go for sushi, but aborted mission and decided to walk the hospital halls instead. I arrived at the hospital around 3 PM and her contractions were already 3 minutes apart. She was still fully dressed, walking her baby out and laughing. We thought this was early labour, meanwhile her partner and her kept saying "the baby is coming soon, maybe an hour." After this, things moved quickly. Contractions were getting extremely intense but she insisted she wanted to labour with those she loved including her 2 daughters. There was so much support in the room, it was a beautiful thing to witness!
When the nurse checked her around 4:15 she was 7cm, but she insisted the baby was coming so the nurse prepped the room and called the doctor to come. Then a couple moments later she insisted on pushing... She got into hands and knees position and relaxed into the bed. It actually looked comfortable! And then the nurse called for backup. We all realized this baby was coming and the doctor wasn't. The nurse was extremely calm cool and collected and after the baby's head was out, the nurse instructed her to turn over onto her back. This is where she received her baby into her arms at 4:30. The doctor arrived at 4:45.
