I photographed 4 births my first year (2009) before moving back to Abbotsford, BC. I started a website in 2010 and called myself a birth photographer (a what?!?!) There weren't many of us at that time (literally a handful of websites would pop up on Google.) I started scraping for clients in my home town which was harder than I thought it would be. Finally 1 friend took a leap and said yes, and from then on things have slowly built to the business of my dreams in 2014.
Now I'm proud to say I'm a professional birth photographer and I also co-run Canadian Birth Photographers. I have captured nearly 70 births and look forward to witnessing every new baby take that first breath. I was looking back at some of those first births I photographed in San Francisco and thought I would show you my journey. Photographing births is hard… tight quarters, fast moving events, low light and crowded rooms. I improve my skills with every birth I shoot. I've always been proud of my photos; I was proud of them at the time, and now I'm even more proud. I've come so far and I look forward to where the next 5 years will take me.
