When Fern's mom contacted me and wanted to do a photo session to capture her uniqueness at 4 months old before she undergoes a number of surgeries in her life, I was so excited. Fern is an amazing little girl full of life. Just like any other 4 month old baby, she fusses when she's tire, needs a bit of rocking to go to sleep, is well loved by her older sister, likes being read to, and is easily amused by watching her sister play close by. She will walk a different journey than most children, and this family has spent a lot of time in and out of Vancouver Children's Hospital, but that doesn't change Fern's sweetness and only adds to her story. To read more about Fern, check out mama's blog here. While mom was trying to give Fern a little nap, I took some video to capture that sweet moment in time for the family. This was an incredible calm yet eventful home birth. The energy was peaceful, trusting and powerful. Mama had to work hard to get her sweet baby boy out, but once he was out and gave his first cry, we were all in tears. Women are amazing. Babies are amazing. Life is just amazing. I had a hard time choosing which photos to blog, so I just decided to post their slideshow. I chose this song because it played in the background while she laboured. She sang along with the lyrics… so I knew it was the right song to play with Leif's story. Please enlarge the video for viewing. Leif Home Birth Story from Cradled Creations on Vimeo. It's incredible being able to document a child's entire journey into this world from utero to cozy newborn snuggles. I absolutely loved photographing this family welcoming their second baby girl. This mama worked hard during her birth and at the end she had the best reward of pulling her own baby up by herself. I'm a little jealous whenever I witness this because it's my biggest dream to delivery my own baby but am always frozen in the moment when the midwife tells me to reach down and feel the head. So congratulation to this mama for having such control and seizing the moment. Then after much anticipation, the day of her birth came...And then her sweet newborn photos at home...Watch Annelise's Full Birth Video Here:When these clients hired me they didn't know that dad wouldn't be present. We discussed what they wanted me to capture and it involved photos of both mom and dad having a natural birth. Well life is unpredictable and this birth looked a little different than they thought 5 months prior. Dad was away for work and mom trouped on. Then, when complications started popping up one after the other, they whisked her into the OR where I was also able to go and capture the birth of her son so the dad could still experience it through photos and video. Here was my favourite photo from the day. A photo of their son BEFORE he took his first breath. This is birth by Caesarean section. It is incredible! Please watch Hunter's birth story. It's my first time capturing a birth with 50% video and I loved it!!! The video brings the stills to life. Watch and see. |
