This is one of my dearest friends. I remember sitting in her basement in highschool and talking about how we would raise our kids differently, then we lived together 1 year in university, she stood beside me as I said my wedding vows, and now we get to raise our little girls side by side. She is already the amazing mama we all knew she would be. Here is a little glimpse into life with her little lady at 2 weeks old.

Vancouver… what a beautiful place to raise a family. This family wanted their home and environment to be a part of their maternity and newborn story. I was so grateful to be able to capture their journey in such a cozy environment. 

I photographed this little guy when he was still just a baby bump. It was so lovely meeting  him in his lovely nursery. Mama spent a lot of time nesting in this room.

This is one of my favourite sessions yet. The amazing midwives at West Coast Health Collective provided this mom with a tea bag filled with herbs for a healing bath. A herbal bath is brewed into a pot and poured into the bathtub. It helps heal mama's bottom and baby's belly button. What could be more wonderful than pouring a warm bath and gazing into your new baby's eyes?  It was a beautiful, calm and sacred time between mama and baby.

It's incredible being able to document a child's entire journey into this world from utero to cozy newborn snuggles. I absolutely loved photographing this family welcoming their second baby girl.  This mama worked hard during her birth  and at the end she had the best reward of pulling her own baby up by herself.  I'm a little jealous whenever I witness this because it's my biggest dream to delivery my own baby but am always frozen in the moment when the midwife tells me to reach down and feel the head. So congratulation to this mama for having such control and seizing the moment. 

I had an extremely great time sharing in this family's journey to parenthood.  When they hired me to be there doula, maternity photographer and newborn photographer, I had no idea they didn't initially want birth photography. I just assumed I was doing birth photos for them and I guess somehow along the way I convinced them that they did want birth photos. Now they are so glad they did it. 

Their birth journey was incredible. After a very long labour throughout the night, they ended up wheeling mom down to the OR to help the baby out with forceps. Well that must have been the final straw to convince mom and baby that it was time for him to be born and she pushed him out without the forceps in the OR. It was a triumphant moment where everyone in the OR was thrilled for the new family. Thank you for letting me support you on your journey and allowing me to capture it so Koden can also experience it one day.

I loved doing some special photos a couple weeks later of this little guy in his nursery. His dad made his crib for him by hand. We also put him on an old vintage scale that mom and dad picked up from a local antique shop.
