This was an extremely emotional birth journey... hard for both the mom AND the dad. When the dad called me Wednesday night and let me know they were going to the hospital, he also told me he had lost his mother the day before. So while feeling weak, this father was forced to be strong.
I told them I would go to bed and get some sleep and asked them to call me once the mom was passed 6 cm (or in the morning... whichever came first.) Fortunately for me, I got a full nights sleep, but unfortunately for the mom, she laboured through the night. Things went slow throughout the next day. I kept in contact with the couple over phone, and finally came to the hospital when mom was 8cm. When I arrived, doctors were already talking C-section and then the baby agreed saying that she was tired too and didn't want to cooperate anymore. This was a lot for everyone to take in at this point. Dad especially found it hard to see Mama wheeled away into surgery. But then, 1 hour later, he came back down the hall with a smile on his face to announce Serenity, a beautiful and very healthy 8 pound girl was born. While mom was in recovery, dad led the way to the nursery to show off his new beauty. I returned later to get some family shots with mom.
